Composite Steel Floor Deck

Super-Bond® Composite Floor Deck is produced for use in low-rise, high-rise and manufacturing sectors of the nonresidential market.

The unique engineering behind Super-Bond deck serves an important and cost efficient dual purpose: the system acts as a working platform before and during concrete placement, eliminating the costly work normally needed to construct and remove wood forms. Also, it acts as a positive reinforcement for the concrete slabs: rebar in the concrete is seldom needed. In most projects the Super-Bond principally reinforces the slab and the only other reinforcement required is welded wire fabric for controlling temperature and shrinkage cracks.

Super-Bond floor deck is engineered as a ribbed profile deck with special rolled-in embossments designed to interlock with the concrete slab. This construction makes the maximum efficient use of both the steel and the concrete. Composite beam design utilizing composite floor deck and shear studs provides an economical concept, allowing the designer to reduce the size and cost of steel beams by as much as 30 percent.

During construction, Super-Bond composite floor deck carries the full load of the concrete. Shoring may be required on extended spans before the concrete cures and reaches maximum strength. After the concrete is cured, the full load is carried by the steel and concrete performing compositely.

Galvanized Super-Bond composite floor deck is manufactured from steel conforming to ASTM A653. Two galvanized coating weights are available: standard G-60 and G-90. Galvanized coating conforms to the requirements of ASTM A924.

Diaphragm Design – Composite deck slabs can be utilized in diaphragm design with lateral loading. This type of diaphragm is composed of composite steel floor deck and structural, normal or lightweight concrete fill. The concrete fill must have a cover of 2-1/2 inches and attain a minimum compressive strength of 3,000 psi and WWF temperature reinforcing meeting SDI requirements.

Fire Rated Floor – Super-Bond deck has been classified by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. and listed in the UL Fire Resistance Directory D-series floor assemblies. Spray on fireproofing can be applied to the underside of the deck to comply with the design assembly requirements. Fireproofing requirements including surface preparation for the adherence of the fireproofing products is the responsibility of the fireproofing applicator and the fireproofing manufacturer.

The consulting services of Dr. Larry D. Luttrell, P.E., Professor Emeritus – West Virginia University, and Luttrell Engineering, PLLC have been used in the determination of the composite deck technical data.

Composite Steel Floor Deck is available in 22, 20 and 18 gauges.
